If you are a member of Facebook, then you probably know what I am about to talk about. Facebook has these pages where people can join and become a fan of all sort of different things, one being television shows. It is a way to join a community within the Facebook community itself. Members who join a group related to a television show or become a fan of a television show are sending the message that they are interested in that particular show. On these fan or group pages, many post YouTube videos or Facebook uploaded videos to promote an upcoming episode of a show for instance, photos of the cast, even spoilers and links to follow cast members on Twitter. There are even discussion boards where members can communicate their personal opinions on a show.
These groups are only one of the ways that help shows determine how well they are doing according to the popularity embrace by their audience out there.
Dr. Strangelove posted an article from the LA Times on his blog called Elizabeth Murdoch on the Future of TV. She explains the relation between television and social networking. “We in the television business have to catch up with what our audience is doing,” she said. That means not running from social networking but embracing it as a way to drive viewers and revenue.” (Murdoch, 2010)
In addition I found a video posted on Facebook of a popular TV show called The Vampire Diaries. Below is the same video from YouTube. The shows popularity has grown quite high over the past few months and it just shows based on its number of fans on Facebook at 464,255 and rising.

Very interesting way to market on facebook. I also found a way to automate a couple very powerful methods of getting users. You can harvest ID by groups or pages or wall posts with this software. Then once you have the IDs you can do a friend request to your user ID or sudo profile. This by passes the captcha codes too. There is also a cool chat program that you can setup scripts and keyword to work with. This program, when I use it I can see a spike in my site traffic. It is amazing…
I just want to say that I enjoy the Vampire Dairies. Ever since it came out last year, I have been yearning waiting for every episode to come out! I nearly passed out when I had to wait 3 weeks for the new episode to come out, I can’t wait to watch what is going to happen in episode 15! Xoxo
